Markets await MPC view on quantitative easing

As the markets await the outcome of this week’s meeting of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee, there seems little doubt that rates will be held at their current low of half a percentage point.

Less clear, however, are the committee’s intentions for proceeding with its heroic efforts to expand the money supply – dubbed “quantitative easing” – by purchasing gilts and other securities.
