Crisis forces eastern guests to join party

As the world’s leaders gather for this weekend’s summit on the financial crisis, one message stands out: power is shifting east.

The European Union, in the person of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, pushed President George W. Bush to hold the summit – but also recognised that in Friday’s circumstances, the old guestlist would be inadequate.
