Tougher rules for EU defence deals

European defence contractors are likely to gain more access to contracts elsewhere in the European Union, under legislation which is designed to free up cross-border procurement and set to be endorsed on Wednesday by the European Parliament.

The proposed directive is aimed at preventing member countries from buying military equipment principally from domestic contractors.
