Unions warn Brown on pay strategy

Gordon Brown’s attempt to impose a three-year public sector pay strategy will bring him into conflict with workers unless he sharply increases the amount of money on the table, unions warned on Tuesday.

Relations between the government and the public sector are already strained and unions suspect the strategy is simply an attempt to squeeze pay by spreading it over a longer period.
