New Zealand dollar hit by S&P warning

The New Zealand dollar tumbled against the Japanese yen and the US dollar on Tuesday after ratings agency Standard & Poor’s warned that it could downgrade the country’s foreign currency debt rating.

S&P lowered its outlook for New Zealand’s rating from stable to negative, citing the country’s rising current account deficit and worsening fiscal position, but confirmed a stable outlook for the local currency rating.
