Turkey strikes at PKK in north Iraq

Turkish aircraft on Wednesday launched strikes targeting Kurdish rebels in the Kandil mountains of northern Iraq for the second day, the army said.

Ankara has stepped up military strikes against the separatist Kurdish Workers party (PKK) since early October. Talks are under way between Turkey, the US and Iraq to set up a three-way committee aimed at tracking and curbing PKK activity in northern Iraq, which the Turkish foreign ministry yesterday said would soon be in place.
