Mutineers plan assault on Brown

Gordon Brown faces a critical showdown on Monday with rebel Labour MPs who plan to use a meeting of the parliamentary party to mount a last-ditch assault on his authority.

Against the backdrop of Sunday night’s dire European election results, the prime minister will address a packed gathering at Westminster, where senior MPs are expected to tell him to his face that he must step down.
