Small companies 'favour' credit cards

Credit cards are the most widely used financing tool for small and medium-sized companies, which spend more than £1.8bn on their plastic each month, according to a study of SME finances by Warwick Business School.

The research, which was sponsored by the Bank of England, the Treasury, employers' groups and retail banks, is the most comprehensive study of financing for the UK's 4m SMEs, defined as those with fewer than 250 employees.
