Frustrated hedge fund potential

Although several elements of China's economic progress are exceptionally attractive to global hedge fund groups, the opportunity to exploit them remains tantalisingly out of reach.

Hedge fund managers are increasingly asking about setting up in Shanghai - typically after hearing a Chinese whisper that competitors are getting a head start on them. Their interest is understandable: China's rapid economic growth and highly inefficient markets are like manna to hedge funds. But the reality can be disappointing.
