Clocking in with second-quarter growth of 1.1 per cent, Poland is the European Union’s fastest growing economy, and while the number is far from those seen in rapidly rebounding Asia, Poland’s resilience is still significant.
Just six months ago, Poland and the rest of central Europe were embroiled in a crisis of confidence, as analysts worried that the region’s banking systems – often larded with debt denominated in foreign currency – were ripe for trouble, which they feared could drag down western Europe.
