TUC warns on maternity leave

Unions are urging ministers to press on with plans to extend maternity leave after fresh reports that Lord Mandelson wants a bonfire of any legislation that might damage business during the recession.

Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress, said there would be a backlash if ministers backtracked on new rights for working mothers expected to come into force in April next year.
