RBS chief faces up to staff cut criticism

Textual analysts would have a field day scrutinising the rhetoric of Stephen Hester’s public pronouncements.

Earlier this week, he talked several times of feeling “bruised” by the European Commission process that ended in RBS agreeing to sell off a list of subsidiaries – from small business banking in England and Wales to commodities trading joint venture RBS Sempra to insurance.
