China's share buy-back move lifts stocks

Chinese stocks leapt to a three-week high yesterday, defying the regional bear market, as state-owned firms responded to government initiatives and bought back shares of their listed subsidiaries.

The Shanghai composite index closed up 3.6 per cent at 2,297.501.
