Putin talks of several possible successors

Vladimir Putin on Friday said there were at least five possible candidates to ­succeed him as Russian ­president – and that Viktor Zubkov, Russia’s little-known new prime minister, was among them.

Speculation over who might succeed Mr Putin, who under the Russian constitution must step down in March, moved into high gear this week after he nominated Mr Zubkov as prime minister to replace the lacklustre Mikhail Fradkov.
