What is spread betting?

To its advocates, spread betting is a tax-efficient, flexible way of making money from financial markets – and elsewhere – which offers the potential for serious gains. To its detractors, it is a good way of losing money quickly with an offputting name that smacks of gambling rather than “proper” investment.
