Marathon Oil faces futures trades scrutiny

Marathon Oil, the fourth largest US oil and gas company, has been warned by federal regulators that its refining unit could face legal action alleging manipulation of one of the most opaque corners of the physical crude oil markets.

The case highlights increasing scrutiny by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the futures regulator, of trading in the over-the-counter energymarkets.
