Hard-hitting Lagarde points up SocGen's lack of control

France's finance minister abandoned discretion yesterday as she faced a parliamentary commission gathered to hear her take on events at Société Générale, the French bank hit by the biggest rogue trading scandal in banking history.

"Very clearly some internal control procedures didn't work," Christine Lagarde said in words far blunter than those used in the finance ministry report handed to prime minister François Fillon hours before.
