The Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama has again broken the record in campaign fundraising. His aides announced yesterday that in January the Illinois senator raised $32m (€22m, £16m) - the biggest sum in one month ever collected by a presidential candidate in the primary season.

According to Mr Obama's campaign it counted 170,000 new donors in the past month, bringing its total to 650,000.
