Stock markets fall as oil rises above $60

World equity markets were sharply lower on Monday as oil prices hit fresh highs after Iran’s president-elect vowed to pursue the country’s nuclear power programme, further straining relations with the US.

Global equities have struggled in recent days as energy prices appear to have reached a tipping point for many industrial users across the world, with inflation outstripping companies' capacity to absorb higher costs by increasing the prices they charge consumers.
