Lazard offers chief new deal

Bruce Wasserstein yesterday secured a new five-year contract to lead Lazard, the US investment bank, with terms including a base salary of $900,000 per year and restricted stock worth $96m.

The agreement will allow the 60-year-old Wall Street dealmaker to continue as chairman and chief executive beyond May, when his previous contract, worth $4.8m in annual base salary plus a bonus, was set to expire.
