Sales growth slows at Sainsbury

J Sainsbury, Britain’s third-biggest supermarket chain, on Wednesday said that its quarterly like-for-like sales growth had slowed as food price inflation eased coming into the autumn.

Yet Justin King, chief executive, said the business was still performing well “in what remains a challenging consumer environment”, adding that sales of its non-food product ranges – such as clothing – were growing at nearly three times the rate of its food offering.
