Companies dominate data-failings shame list

Companies top a league of shame published on Wednesday by the privacy watchdog as part of efforts to crack down on data security problems in both the private and public sectors.

Richard Thomas, information commissioner, promised tough action against business failings after the private sector racked up more than a quarter of the 277 breaches of confidential information rules reported to his office during the last year.
