Strasbourg likely to remain second home for parliament

Strasbourg’s role as the hugely expensive second home of the European parliament is likely to survive unscathed at an EU summit next week, as heads of government back away from a clash with France’s President Jacques Chirac.

Wolfgang Schüssel, the Austrian host of the summit, has warned that he will not allow any debate on Strasbourg’s future, in spite of growing pressure from members of the European parliament to move all their work to Brussels.
