Bond issuance spurred by low lending levels

Global syndicated loan volumes during the first nine months reached $1,170bn, a 53 per cent drop from the same period last year and the lowest level for that period since 1996.

Lending has slowed during the past quarter, with third-quarter syndicated loan volumes down 49 per cent on the previous quarter to $235bn, the lowest quarterly volume since the second quarter of 1994.
