The new lexicon: Language says it all with watches

Terminology is not only revealing of detail within a subject but can show, intentionally or not, how more general matters concern the subject in question.

Just think of the defensiveness embedded in “edu-speak” and its transposition of “satisfactory” for “poor”. To claim that language reveals as much as the watches themselves in the past 20 years would be an exaggeration, but not by much.
