Cattles on course to pick up banking licence

Cattles, a lender to subprime customers rejected by high street banks, will say next week that it is on track to obtain a banking licence and hopes to take £1bn of retail deposits by 2010.

For Cattles, obtaining a banking licence is vital to its future. It raised £200m in a recent rights issue to strengthen its capital base because all banks must hold a cushion of regulatory capital to be able to withstand losses.
