Energy groups to escape split of assets

Electricité de France, Eon and other big European energy groups are poised to escape a forced split of their assets because of powerful Franco-German resistance to European Union liberalisation measures.

At what is expected to be a key meeting in Brussels on Thursday, EU energy ministers will try to overcome months of deadlock when they discuss a potential compromise plan that would leave large integrated companies intact.
