An electoral college consisting of the members of both houses of the federal parliament and the legislatures of the country’s four provinces will choose a new president for Pakistan on Saturday.
Provincial legislators’ votes are weighted to balance the voting power of each province and block the possibility of the largest dominating the vote. Each Baluchistan legislator gets a vote equal to that of a federal parliamentarian. In sharp contrast, each Punjab legislator is given in effect 0.176 of a vote.
