Campbell accuses the media and colleagues

Sir Menzies Campbell on Tuesday spoke of his frustration and irritation at being hounded out of his job as Liberal Democrat leader, as young pretenders planned campaigns to replace him.

Sir Menzies said he decided to quit after a week of press stories highlighting his age and criticising his leadership. “It became pretty clear it was going to be hard to get out from under that,” he said.
