US army suicide cases at record 115

The number of US soldiers who committed suicide rose to a record 115 in 2007 as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to place an increasing strain on the military, the US army said on Thursday.

The figure was up from 102 the previous year, according to new figures from the army. According to another set of preliminary numbers, the army said 166 soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan had attempted suicide in 2007.
