Congress set to shun sanctions threat to China

The US Congress is likely to move ahead with legislation that would send a strong signal to Beijing over US concerns about the weak renminbi but stop well short of threatening sanctions on Chinese imports.

Bill Thomas, the powerful Republican chairman of the House ways and means committee, told a meeting of the US Chamber of Commerce yesterday that some legislation was probably needed to raise pressure on China.
