Winterflood’s trade bolsters Close Brothers

Close Brothers, one of London’s oldest merchant banks, beat analysts’ forecasts and reported resilient figures – thanks to record income at Winterflood, its marketmaking and securities trading business.

Although profit before tax fell 25 per cent to £88.3m for the year to July, the decrease was not as great as some analysts expected.
