ICICI Bank, India’s largest private financial institution, on Friday named Chanda Kochhar as its new chief executive, one of a growing number of women who are joining the top ranks of the sector.

Ms Kochhar is a member of an elite group of women bankers in India who are running institutions including HSBC, ABN Amro, JPMorgan, UBS and ICICI’s insurance arm.
