Brussels to make data on medicines public

The European Commission is drawing up plans to provide greater information to the public on medicines that will dilute the long-standing ban on pharmaceutical companies' involvement in marketing prescription drugs to patients.

Officials hope by the autumn to launch a pilot "public database" showing information on the safety and efficacy of existing and new medicines, with involvement from drug companies as well as governments, doctors and patient groups.
