Interview: Angela Knight

The public face of Britain’s banking industry has urged regulators to hold off for up to 10 years before they force banks to comply with tough new rules on holding more cash and capital.

Angela Knight, chief executive of the British Bankers’ Association, said initiatives from the authorities in Brussels, the UK and Basel, where international bank rules are written, were “all right and proper”. But she said now was not the time to add to banks’ burdens.
