Bahrain strives for better schooling

Manama is an unlikely setting for a global education summit. Like most Gulf states, Bahrain struggles to keep its schooling system up to the demands of local industries, let alone to international standards.

Its inaugural summit last week, which brought together educationalists from the US, Europe and Asia, was intended to stimulate ideas for education reform. It was also a chance to pick over some of the many failed experiments.
