Brown demands MEPs publish receipts

Gordon Brown, UK prime minister, will try to regain the initiative in the expenses furore surrounding MPs by forcing Labour members of the European parliament to publish receipts, setting a precedent for the legislature.

The move puts the UK at the forefront of commitments to raise transparency among the 785 MEPs, as the UK’s party leaders vie to restore voters’ trust in the political system.
