Asda benefits from flight to frugality

Asda’s reputation as Britain’s cheapest big supermarket chain appeared to be paying off on Wednesday as it reported far better underlying sales growth than its rivals.

The Wal-Mart owned chain, the UK’s biggest grocer after Tesco, said underlying sales rose by 6.9 per cent in the three months to September 30, comfortably outpacing Tesco and J Sainsbury.
