SEC reopens probe into Pequot

The Securities and Exchange Commission has reopened an investigation into allegations of insider trading at Pequot Capital Management, according to people familiar with the matter.

The case, which originally surfaced as part of a larger investigation into Pequot three years ago, centres on whether Arthur Samberg, the hedge fund’s chairman and chief executive, coaxed material, non-public information from a Microsoft employee and used it to generate more than $14m in profits.
