Crude surges amid gloom on inflation outlook

Global equity and bond markets closed out a bruising June in mixed form on Monday, while commodities remained the asset class of choice as crude oil set a record high.

The latest surge in oil, to a record $143.67 a barrel and up 49 per cent this year, came as inflation rose to a 16-year high of 4 per cent in Europe.
