Fears over conservatism of Solvency II rules

When the European Commission kicked off its project to improve the risk and capital management of insurers in mid-2004, the results were expected only to be of benefit to the industry.

But now that the details are being thrashed out on exactly how the new capital rules will be implemented in the wake of the financial crisis, the howls of protest from some parts of the sector are getting louder.
