Koroma wins Sierra Leone election

Ernest Bai Koroma, the opposition candidate in Sierra Leone’s presidential election, was declared winner on Monday, after a largely peaceful presidential run-off.

A successful transfer of power would mark a major step in Sierra Leone’s recovery from a civil war that ended in 2002, and provide Africa with a rare example of a democratic handover in a country emerging from conflict.
