Short View: Christmas lull comes early

Christmas is still over a month away, but the traditional Christmas lull in market participation has come early this year.

The most striking evidence of this is in the sharp fall in short-term US interest rates. Some Treasury bills maturing in early January offer negative yields. Investors are essentially willing to lock in a loss.
