New hurdles for private equity

The past few years have been surprisingly good for foreign venture capital and private equity firms that invest in China through offshore structures.

One important element of these transactions is the ability of the Chinese owners of potential target companies to move their ownership interests to locations to sunny climes such as the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands and Mauritius.
