Marks and Spencer steps up India presence

Marks and Spencer, the UK retailer, is to set up a joint venture with Reliance Industries, the powerful Indian group, as it looks to step up its expansion in the country with bigger stores.

The agreement will see M&S take a 51 per cent stake in a joint venture that plans to open at least 50 stores, selling clothing and homewares, in India in the next five years.
