Huge lift-off for secondary sales

When a consortium of four private equity groups last week closed the circle on its three-year ownership of Intelsat, the outcome was about as good as it gets.

Apax Partners, Apollo Management, Madison Dearborn Partners and Permira Advisers sold the satellite operator for $5bn to BC Partners, the UK buy-out group – and took away about ten times its initial investment.
