Mackie's, an ice-cream maker in Scotland, has scooped the FT's first sustainable business award for small businesses, after installing three wind turbines near its factory.

The judges said the competition was unique in rewarding companies that showed an absolute reduction in their greenhouse gas output, as well as a reduction in greenhouse gases relative to turnover.
