N Rock’s capital ratios breach regulations

Northern Rock is operating with capital ratios below the regulatory minimum as it prepares to report substantial first-half losses.

The nationalised bank said its total tier one capital ratio – a measure of financial strength – was negative at -£110m at the end of December 2008, but a waiver granted by the regulators meant it met regulatory requirements.
