UK bank boosts share of mortgage lending

Barclays yesterday unveiled a surprisingly robust performance in its home market, as it took the opportunity to write large volumes of new lending in the first half.

The UK bank's move to take 26 per cent of new mortgage lending - up from 6 per cent in the first half of 2007 - is all the more surprising because until recently it had been losing market share in home loans.
