The apparent use of chemical weapons by regime forces in Syria in a series of attacks in Damascus has hardened attitudes of western government towards Bashar al-Assad, Syrian president.

Although the UK parliament voted against military intervention, missile strikes appear to be firmly on the cards in the US and France.

This interactive map looks at possible targets for military attacks, as well as providing an overview of the increasingly worsening refugee situation. According to UN data, over 2m people have registered as refugees since the Syria crisis began in March 2011.
